Koovam, Thiruvallur , Tamil Nadu 631402

Koovam is a village in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, situated close to the Coovam lake. It has a vibrant group of 3438 residents who along with the Panchayat President, are extremely motivated to be involved in the development of their village. According to a recent Needs Assessment that was conducted in April 2015, the residents feel strongly about the need for better access to emergency health care, enhanced educational opportunities for their children, making better use of the large playground that is currently untouched, and providing access to better sanitation to the 50% households who practice open defecation.

With the help of a few residents and migrants from this village, supplementary educational programmes have begun to strengthen the children's English, Tamil and Maths. The village also recently acquired a computer device (ENDLESS) which can showcase educational information from all over the internet, without the need for internet.

The village is hoping to increase its community of supporters in order to transform the playground, increase access to emergency health care, and tackle the problem of open defecation in the village.
